Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria

… luxury as a family

The Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria holds a privileged position, as it is just in front of the sea … So much so that between the sea and the hotel there is just a promenade. It is a family hotel with entertainment and in that sense it really charmed us, not just because of the facilities which it has in general, but because of its dear and friendly mascot RoNi.

When the structure of the Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria was completed it was completely filled with water, to verify whether it was well done and to avoid any future surprises relating to damp or leaks.

Communal areas and general facilities

There are two swimming pools, one of which is filled with heated freshwater and the infinity pool which is filled with salt water. From the latter you get some spectacular views of the sea. There is also an outdoor Jacuzzi (particularly relaxing for a couple wanting to disconnect from their mundane responsibilities … like the two of us :)).

The most privileged place in the pool is near the waterfall, where there is a Balinese bed. Request it in advance, because there is only one.

There is an ample offering of restaurants and bars at the Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria. The Garoé Restaurant is the main buffet-style one with international cuisine and live cooking, as well as a large terrace from where you can see the sea and La Gomera on the horizon. The night when we dined in the restaurant it was dedicated to Italian cuisine and the food, as well as being abundant, was excellent and delicious, as was breakfast :)

At midday, while we were doing our visit to the Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria, we stopped for a while to lunch at the Ahemón Pool Restaurant, which has a varied buffet including green and red mojo and papas guisadas which tasted just like the traditional ones you’d find in any Tenerife home. As well as serving lunch, they also provide drinks and light food throughout the day.

We must highlight the good deeds and detailed attention paid by the restaurant staff in the hotel. It was really pleasant to have conversations with some of the waiters … J

On the other hand, those who want an à la carte option can go to the Burgos (Spanish) and Verona (Italian) Restaurants. To liven up the afternoons and evenings there are various bars like the Bar Tamaragua near reception which has piano at nights and tries to put on a variety of shows from outside to create as much excitement as possible. You can also enjoy yourself at the Belingo disco and the Bar Coloquio.

Rooms at the Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria

There are 289 rooms at the Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria which are generally characterised as being quite spacious.

There are double rooms and superior double rooms. In our experience (we stayed in room 407), the double rooms are welcoming with a spacious and fully-equipped bathroom. They have everything you as a couple could need to accommodate your things in the wardrobe, as well as providing a large terrace with some beautiful views of the gardens and the sea.

The junior suites and superior suites are ideal for families with a separate living room, dressing room and full bathroom. The terraces have a glass front so you can enjoy the view from your own hammock.

The royal suite and the two presidential suites have several rooms, a living room, two bathrooms and terraces. They generally accommodate 4 people.

The royal suite has a kitchen, and if you so wish the head chef can cook for you privately there (at additional cost), serving the food on your spacious terrace.

In the hotel shop you can buy a RoNi teddy bear and the MiniDisco CD, which is really very fun … In our case Noah has listened to it almost every day. We already know all of the words to the songs … :)

The Las Galgas Beach is very tranquil and is next to the hotel, accessible by a direct lift. The hotel offers special prices for golf lovers and guests of the hotel at almost all the courses on the island. At the hotel there is also a large garage.

They have a large spa with a big interior dome, with indoor pools, a Jacuzzi, water jets, a Hammam, a relaxation room, massage treatments, hydro massage, a couples suite, a hairdresser, a gym, etc. It is 1,800m2 with some unbeatable views of the Atlantic Ocean and the neighbouring island of La Gomera. We could not resist trying it and afterwards we treated ourselves to a couples massage J It opens from 8am to 9pm and access is not restricted to hotel guests.

Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria with children

There is a large Mini Club with a children’s patio where they offer many activities. It is open all day for children aged 3 to 12. Their mascot is RoNi, who can be found around the pool area, walking through the hotel or in the MiniDisco (where children can dance with him) at 8:30pm every day during high season.

RoNi comes from the first syllables of Roca Nivaria and is a pilot whale, which are known to live permanently off the coast of Tenerife in families.

El Mini club tiene muchos servicios preparados para los niños

On the first day you arrive you fill in a welcome form to give the details of the child and after that (provided they are more than 3 years old) they can just turn up spontaneously. On Sundays they have films, eat popcorn and put mats on the floor.

The Mini Club also has a Baby Club option, with a play area and relaxation area with cots. It is open from 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm, and babies must always be booked in the day before (as they need 1 adult for every 5 babies).

Incluso tienen la opción del Baby club, donde cuidan de bebés o niños pequeños

In the Garoé Restaurant there is a special room for young children with games and video games called the “submarine”, and a special section for children during school holidays where they can choose their own food.

Parque, terrario, amplio patio,...

Planning your stay

Getting there

The Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria is on Playa Paraíso, some 25km from the south airport. From the motorway you should pass Costa Adeje and take the exit for Armeñime. After passing through that neighbourhood and getting to La Cancela, take Calle El Pinque on the left. Continue straight ahead on that road and take the Calle Aljibe on the left. There is a free bus to Fañabé several times a day.

Final comments from the authors about Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria

The Gran Hotel Roca Nivaria is a modern hotel, with spacious gardens, leafy palm trees and impressive views of the sea. When staying at the hotel we could really perceive that closeness and (unforced) desire to make guests feel comfortable, which you hear so much about at hotels in the Adrián group. As much in the restaurant as at reception, the staff always made an effort to make our stay unforgettable …

La decoración de los pasillos del hotel es simple, pero elegante

Ever since we suggested doing an article on the hotel I had it in my mind to take a photo of the hotel at sunset from a specific place. On that day the weather didn’t permit it, but well … We’ll have to go back to take that photo on another occasion. Maybe another time we should take Noah, although I’m sure that he would go crazy straight away about RoNi.  In fact when we took him the CD and teddy bear, he slept with the whale for the rest of the holiday in Tenerife :) Without a doubt, it was a stay to dream about forever.
